Fitness trackers provide benefits well beyond fitness tracking for the majority of the population. Many of the basic trackers will cover a lot of the vital analysis. If you have private health insurance you will likely find that your insurer has member reward discounts.
There have been multiple lives saved by fitness trackers, most of the recorded ones are in relation to changes in heart rates that would more than likely go undetected if not wearing one and lead to complications.
From the articles that we have seen they are all different ages and fitness levels so it is something that in our opinion shouldn’t be ignored.
Here is a recent story from an Australian woman.
Fitness trackers can alert you to a medical emergency in a few ways, depending on the specific device and its features. Here are some possibilities:
- Heart rate monitoring: Many fitness trackers monitor your heart rate continuously throughout the day. If your heart rate becomes abnormally high or low, or if it detects an irregular heartbeat, it may send an alert to your device or phone.
- Fall detection: Some fitness trackers have sensors that can detect when you fall down. If you fall and don’t get up after a certain amount of time, the device may assume that you’re unable to and send an alert to your phone or emergency contacts.
- Blood oxygen monitoring: Some fitness trackers can monitor your blood oxygen levels. If your oxygen levels drop too low, it may send an alert to your device or phone.
- Emergency SOS feature: Some fitness trackers have an emergency SOS feature that allows you to quickly call for help. This could be done by pressing and holding a button or by using a specific gesture on the device.
Several popular fitness trackers on the market today can monitor irregular heartbeat or arrhythmia. Here are a few examples:
- Fitbit: Several Fitbit models, including the Fitbit Sense and Versa 3, have a feature called “PurePulse” that monitors your heart rate continuously and can detect irregular heart rhythms. If an irregular rhythm is detected, the device will alert you and suggest that you seek medical attention.
- Garmin: Some Garmin models, such as the Vivosmart 4 and Venu 2, have a feature called “Pulse Ox” that can monitor your heart rate and blood oxygen levels. The device can also detect irregular heart rhythms and send alerts to your device or phone.
